Dr. Marcelle Blancato
Marcelle Blancato is a Registered Social Worker, Registered Clinical Counsellor and a member of the BC Play Therapy Association. Dr. Blancato has extensive education, training and over 20 years of experience working with children and adults in the areas of: trauma, addictions, anxiety, abuse and divorce including children impacted by high conflict divorce. She provides the setting for expressive therapy, including the sand tray. Her therapeutic work is child centered, and guided by trauma informed care, with a strong attachment based philosophy.
Dr. Blancato has held contracts for interviewing and/or the treatment of children with the Vancouver Police Department, Squamish Nation and is currently on contract with the Vancouver School Board. She has also held clinical positions at Canuck Place, Cameray Childrens Centre as well as with various addictions agencies.
These contracts and positions add to Dr. Blancato's role as a child specialist by assisting her in understanding the child's voice and interfacing within various systems as required.
She is the recipient of the 2012 Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of her work with children and contributions to the Community and Canada. She maintains a private practice in Vancouver working with adults and children which includes utilizing a team approach when working with children who resist or refuse parenting time with one parent.
